I'm a fine art and documentary photographer working primarily in traditional film and darkroom techniques. My work has received awards by the Center for Fine Art Photography in Colorado and the Royal Photographic Society in England, among others. Most of my photographs are taken from ongoing projects focused on telling a story: the personalities of animals including those rescued by sanctuaries, endangered old-growth forests, former slave dwellings still standing , and Home/land, a story about the world in rural central Pennsylvania where I grew up and now live. This combines the juxtaposition of animals and landscapes, farm families who have been there for generations, newer Amish neighbors, and startlingly nearby the last of the anthracite hard coal miners. The slow method of film photography and darkroom printing suits my style of storytelling. I combine techniques I've used over the past twenty five years, starting with classic silver black and white printing and including aspects of the now-extinct dye transfer technique which I learned as a young printer, along with handpainting with sepia washes.

I grew up on a Pennsylvania farm and became an aerospace engineer working in California and New Mexico. Eventually I choose to focus on photography and lived near Yosemite for several years, photographing throughout the West. After a while I was drawn back to Pennsylvania and the unique photographic stories here.
