FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chris Vance Announced as 2017 Commemorative Poster Artist for Des Moines Arts Festival® “The Dream” to also be painted as a mural downtown
Des Moines, IA – May 25, 2017 – The Des Moines Arts Festival® is honored to announce professional visual artist Chris Vance as the 2017 Des Moines Arts Festival Featured Artist. His work, “The Dream,” will appear on the 2017 commemorative poster.
“The Dream” will also be painted as a mural on the East-facing side of the Ford & Garland Auto Radio Inc building (1304 Locust St). This is not the first time Vance has been selected by DMAF (he was named the 10th anniversary featured artist back in 2007 and he is now the 20th anniversary artist). It is, however, the first time a permanent installation of his work will reside on the Festival site.
“To say we are thrilled to welcome back Chris Vance to the Festival, not only as a returning artist, but also as this year’s featured artist, is an understatement,” said Stephen King, Executive Director of the Des Moines Arts Festival. “His featured work The Dream, shows the many layers and experiences Des Moines has to share.”
Chris Vance is a Des Moines-based mixed media artist who works primarily in acrylics, but also utilizes spray paint and graffiti markers in his work. His design for the 2017 Des Moines Arts Festival commemorative poster combines the celebration of DMAF’s 20th year with the energy of a living mural. It also holds personal meaning to him.
“I grew up in Des Moines, and I can still remember one of my first visits to the Des Moines Arts Festival,” Vance said. “To have done the poster not once, but twice now, speaks to hard work ethic, opportunity and the dream to get myself to this point.”
Vance is scheduled to begin working on the mural in the coming weeks and will complete the artwork before the Festival begins.
