Des Moines, IA May 23, 2017 — Live music and entertainment return to the Hy-Vee Main Stage at Des Moines Arts Festival® June 23-25 with Indie pop sensation Saint Motel and rock band Big Head Todd and the Monsters headlining Friday and Saturday, respectively. The 2017 Acoustic Stage presented by Meredith Corporation welcomes a variety of musicians to the stage including Minneapolis based indie-roots band The Pines and American folk singer-songwriter Joe Purdy.
Saint Motel is an indie pop band from Los Angeles that made its big break with a mainstage performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and has opened for Imagine Dragons and Weezer. The band’s music has been described as “dream pop” with "a bright, dreamy sound that transports listeners to another time and place."
Rock band Big Head Todd and the Monsters has released a number of albums since 1989 with their 1993 album “Sister Sweetly” going platinum while simultaneously launching three singles onto the rock charts including “Bittersweet,” “Broken Hearted Savior” and “Circle.” Known for amazing live performances, their show promises a mix of mellow, blues-infused, rock & roll sound and energy.
Based in the Midwest, The Pines created a buzz around the Twin Cities, eventually catching the attention of acclaimed indie label Red House Records. Their breakout album, Sparrows in the Bell, was named one of the top roots releases of the year by Q Magazine.
Joe Purdy has recorded and released fourteen albums over the course of sixteen years, including “Paris in the Morning” and “You Can Tell Georgia,” which have sold a combined 80,000 single downloads worldwide. His songs have also turned up on numerous TV shows and film soundtracks.
Both stages present a wide variety of offerings to the 2017 lineup.
